Why are inverter air conditioners better than fixed-frequency air conditioners?

Many people struggle with the choice between inverter and fixed-frequency air conditioners. The core conclusion is simple: for everyday home use and long-term operation, inverter air conditioners are better; for occasional short-term use, fixed-frequency air conditioners offer better value for money. Below, we'll explain the core advantages of inverter air conditioners in simple terms, comparing them with the disadvantages of fixed-frequency air conditioners in an easy-to-understand and straightforward manner.

I. Constant temperature and comfort, say goodbye to sudden temperature changes (biggest advantage)

Fixed-frequency air conditioners operate at a fixed power, stopping when the set temperature is reached and restarting when the temperature rises or falls. Indoor temperature fluctuates repeatedly, with temperature differences reaching 3-5℃. Prolonged use can lead to stuffiness, chills, headaches, and what is commonly known as "air conditioning sickness."

Inverter air conditioners: They start with high power for rapid cooling/heating, then switch to low power and low speed for continuous operation once the set temperature is reached. They operate without stopping, maintaining a constant temperature and keeping the indoor temperature difference within ±0.5℃. The temperature is gentle and even, without sudden changes in temperature, making it comfortable to run all night.

II. Lower energy consumption and more energy-efficient with long-term use.

Many people mistakenly believe that inverter power supplies consume more electricity when starting up, while fixed-frequency power supplies save electricity. The truth is quite the opposite.

Fixed-frequency air conditioners frequently start and stop, and the compressor consumes a lot of electricity when it starts. Repeated start and stop makes them major power consumers.

Inverter air conditioners require almost no frequent start-stop cycles and operate at ultra-low power during constant temperature conditions.

Continuous operation for more than 2 hours: The power saving advantage of frequency conversion is obvious; the longer the operation time, the more power is saved.

If used all night or all day in the summer, inverter technology can save a lot of electricity bills over a year.

The difference in power consumption between fixed-frequency devices is not significant when the window is opened for only a short time or when the machine is frequently switched on and off within one hour of startup.

III. Quieter operation and better nighttime experience

The loudest noise from a fixed-frequency air conditioner comes from the vibration and fan noise of the compressor repeatedly starting and stopping. In a quiet environment at night, the starting and stopping noise is very noticeable and can easily wake up people who are light sleepers.

Inverter air conditioners operate at stable low frequencies without frequent start-stop cycles, resulting in smooth overall operation and lower noise levels from both the indoor and outdoor units. They are suitable for bedrooms, children's rooms, and rooms for the elderly, promoting better sleep quality.

IV. Longer service life

Fixed-frequency compressors experience frequent start-stop cycles and repeated impacts, resulting in significant mechanical wear and susceptibility to malfunction and aging with prolonged use.

Variable frequency compressors mainly operate at low speeds, resulting in stable operation and minimal mechanical wear. With proper maintenance, their service life is generally longer than that of fixed frequency air conditioners.

Additional information: When is it more cost-effective to use a fixed frequency?

Inverter technology is not suitable for all scenarios; selective frequency is more appropriate in the following situations:

Guest rooms and vacant rooms have a low number of times the device is turned on per year and a short usage time (less than 1 hour per session).

For short-term rentals with a very low budget, the goal is to purchase equipment at the lowest possible price.
