Air-cooled chiller unit full model classification
Air-cooled chiller units : self-contained air-cooled condenser, no cooling tower required, heat dissipation from outdoor air, three compression types: scroll, screw, and magnetic levitation centrifugal , and also available in single-cooling and air-cooled heat pump (cooling and heating) .
I. Classification by compressor type (mainstream commercial/industrial models)
1. Air-cooled scroll chiller unit (most commonly used small model)
Applicable cooling capacity: 10kW～200kW
• Modular air-cooled scroll turbine unit Multiple independent scroll compressor modules are assembled, with each module 25/30/50/65kW , which can be freely combined; some have heat pump functions, making them the main type of central air conditioning system for hotels, shopping malls, and office buildings.
• Integrated air-cooled scroll chiller (box type) Standalone unit, suitable for small-capacity industrial cooling, laboratories, small workshops, and injection mold cooling; mostly single-unit cooling.
• Small air-cooled box-type chillers, 1–10 horsepower mini air-cooled units, for cooling lasers, electroplating, machine tools, and small laboratories.
Features : Flexible start-stop, can operate under partial load, low cost, moderate noise, suitable for small to medium loads and intermittent operation.
2. Air-cooled screw chiller units (mainstay for medium to large cooling capacities)
Applicable cooling capacity: 200kW～800kW
• Single-unit air-cooled screw chiller (cooling only) Industrial process cooling and large factory air conditioning only require cooling year-round.
• Air-cooled screw heat pump unit (cooling and heating) It is commonly used in commercial buildings in northern regions without centralized heating systems for heating in winter and cooling in summer.
• Twin-screw air-cooled modular unit With a dual-compressor configuration, the load adjustment range is wider, making it suitable for locations with large load fluctuations.
Features : Large cooling capacity per unit, higher energy efficiency than scroll compressors, suitable for concentrated loads of several hundred kilowatts.
3. Air-cooled magnetic levitation centrifugal chiller unit (high-end large model)
Applicable cooling capacity: 600kW～1800kW. Currently the largest capacity air-cooled model, featuring oil-free bearings, ultra-low energy consumption, low noise, and extremely high COP at partial load. Widely used in large transportation hubs, large commercial complexes, data centers, and projects with extremely high energy-saving requirements where water cooling is not feasible.
II. Classification by Function and Purpose
• Single-cooling air-cooled chiller unit It only produces 7°C cold water and has no heating function. It is mostly used for industrial cooling, process cooling, and refrigeration and air conditioning projects in southern regions.
• Air-cooled heat pump unit (cooling and heating) It provides cooling water in summer and heating water in winter, serving two purposes in one unit, making it the first choice for commercial buildings in northern regions.
• Low-temperature air-cooled chiller unit (industrial use) The outlet water temperature is 0℃ to -35℃ . It is equipped with a scroll / semi-hermetic screw compressor and is used in the chemical, food quick-freezing, low-temperature reaction kettle and refrigeration industries.
III. Classification by Structural Installation Method
• Roof-mounted integrated air-cooled unit The entire unit is placed on the roof, eliminating the need for a machine room, and is often used in central air conditioning systems for shopping malls and supermarkets.
• Floor-standing air-cooled chiller Standard model suitable for outdoor ground or open space placement, and industrial workshops.
• Portable mini air-cooled chiller Equipped with casters and an integrated water tank and pump, suitable for laser, printing, and machine tool applications, it can be moved around easily.
• Low-noise air-cooled unit Enlarged soundproof air ducts and low-speed fans are designed for use near noise-sensitive areas such as residences, hospitals, and schools.
IV. Specialized Sub-models
• Explosion-proof air-cooled chiller Explosion-proof treatment for motors and electrical control systems; suitable for use in chemical, oil and gas, and spraying workshops handling flammable and explosive materials.
• Corrosion-resistant air-cooled chiller Condenser fins are coated with an anti-corrosion coating for use in coastal salt spray and electroplating corrosive environments.
• Air-cooled constant temperature and humidity unit with chiller It is equipped with temperature and humidity control terminals for computer rooms and laboratories, with a temperature control accuracy of ±0.5℃ .

• 10 ～ 200kW , for shops / small factories: air-cooled scroll modular air conditioner
• 200 ～ 800kW , large factory / commercial: air-cooled screw chiller units
• Large-scale energy-saving projects of 800kW and above: air-cooled magnetic levitation centrifugal chiller units
• Industrial cryogenic, mold, and laser cooling: Small air-cooled box chiller / low-temperature air-cooled screw chiller
